Shake It Off

Shake It Off

Shake it off – the three words that became an overnight life anthem. The ultimate good girl f!*k you song. The go-to dance around your room in nothing but underwear song. The God sent, windows down, suns out, you can’t kill my vibe song. But if we for one second put aside Taylor’s imperfectly perfect dance moves and question of how she did it yet again and actually listen to the words, there is a valuable life lesson we can strut away with. It’s a given that we should forever and always shake off the haters, heart-breakers and fakers. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Since this isn’t music comp 101, let’s flip this to our immediate lives. Instead of texting your 5 BFFL’s about how the guy you are seeing liked an Instagram picture of a half naked girl but has yet to call you back, refrain from entering crazy town and shake it off. We already know that it’s his loss anyway. Oh and replace the time you would spend stalking the “whore” of a stranger and do something productive with your time.

You hit every red light on the way to work? Your PSL wasn’t made to its usual perfection? Your roommate left the dirty dishes in the sink? You got brutally dumped? You suffered from severe FOMO over the weekend? Shake it off, all of it. Open your eyes and focus on what is truly shining bright in your life. We should all take a step back to participate relentlessly in the manifestation of our own blessings. I promise you this: at the end of it all, it doesn’t matter how many followers you have or that you wore the same dress twice in your life so shake off all the pettiness you may subconsciously be carrying around so you have more energy to enjoy those who hold a place in your heart and do those things that truly make you smile.
