Adulting

Adulting

Let me set the scene for you. It’s Saturday night at 7:19PM. I am snuggled up on the couch in my one-bedroom apartment. My wet hair is defining a ‘messy bun’ and pimple cream is doing work on my chin. My mind and body are in the middle of a heated argument whether or not to Postmate’s Ben & Jerry’s and tears are about to fall down my face any moment now. Now, I know what you’re thinking … I am totally a postcard of a woman suffering from her monthly visitor. But this my friends, is no case of PMS this is a case of ‘adulthood.’

Have you ever caught yourself sitting down, looking around and whispering to yourself, “what the f!*k.” My mind is constantly on an overload of questions -  how did I get here? Am I supposed to know what to do? Who let me be an adult? Am I too old to want my mom? Should I have life figured out by now? What if I don’t want to be an adult anymore? Is it normal to day dream about college life? I feel like I walk through (most) of my days acting like a duck – keeping calm and unruffled on the surface but paddling like hell underneath.

Here are 5 things that I reminded myself of during this weekends {minor} breakdown:

  1. Defining Adulthood

Who else thinks being an adult should be defined as: Adult: noun; saying “yeah for sure!” but not having a clue and then frantically googling whatever it was later.

Some mornings I roll over in my bed wondering if today will be THE day that I figure it all out. As I sit here laughing at myself with each passing day I’m starting to realize that we will never figure it all out. Think about it, our lives could be different for a hundred and one million different reasons but that is what makes life beautiful, right? Let us be humbled by the beauty and thankful for the messy moments of learning

2. Failure

If reading that word made you cringe know that you aren’t alone. Let’s be real, failing sucks. But guess what? The world goes on. You will wake up tomorrow and the world will still be turning which means you have another chance to get back up on your feet. The cool part about failing? You may not have gotten what you wanted but most of the time, it’s for the better.

  1. We Are All In This Together

You know that horrifying moment when you’re looking for an adult, then realize you are an adult. So you look for an older adult, someone successfully adulting .. you know, an adultier adult. Point being, we all have days where our twenty something life smacks us around and we all have days where we are the one doing the ass kicking. No matter which side of the fence you currently stand on, always lend a helping hand. We are all in this crazy life together. Plus, a little good karma won’t hurt no body.

4. People Pleaser

You ready? Now, repeat after me: “I cannot please everyone.”

One more time, “I cannot please everyone.”

The end.

  1. No One Has It All

No one. Not you. Not me. Not Kim Kardashian. Not your boss. Not that girl that you stalk on Instagram because her page is #goals. No matter who it is or what type of lifestyle they live day in and day out – I assure you that they too are dealing with something they don’t like.

What lessons have you learned lately?

Oh and for the record, I totally ordered the ice cream, HA!

With good vibes,

Chels
