The Best Night’s Sleep, Every Night

The Best Night’s Sleep, Every Night

You know how there is always that one person in the friend group that doesn’t go out after happy hour because it’s almost their bed time? I’m that friend. Even though my birth certificate states that I’m in my mid 20s I would argue that I am a grandmother at heart. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned by juggling life is the value in having a nighttime routine that leads to the best night’s sleep, every night.

6 easy steps to take that will have you waking up feeling rested and radiant:

1.    Unplug Early
Set and follow a sleep schedule. Allowing your mind enough time to shift gears to sleep mode is crucial to sweet dreams. If you’re sitting there asking how you allow your mind to do a such a thing let me tell you. You unplug, everything. That means no laying in bed with the lights off and your phone screen shining in your face. If you know you need to be in by 10 PM then you should start the winding down process of unplugging all electronics 30 to 60 minutes beforehand. Give it a try, I guarantee you will feel a difference.

2.    Tea, Please
I know this is by no means groundbreaking information but to get a good nights sleep you should be aware of your late afternoon coffee intake as well as your alcohol intake. In regards to coffee I would suggest switching to tea or water after your lunch break. Although alcohol may have you dozing off in the blink of an eye it most likely will also have you wide awake at 3 AM with a pounding headache and dry mouth. If you are looking for a quality night’s sleep consider putting both caffeine and alcohol in the corner.

3. Set A Beauty Routine
I once read in a magazine that Halle Berry’s beauty secret was that no matter how tired she was, she always washed her face before bed. Since reading those words I have not laid my head on my pillow before doing so. I am very particular of what product I put on my face. I was recently gifted products from Vichy, a French skincare brand with safe and luxurious products that have become a staple to my nighttime routine. All their products have the mineralizing thermal water that is perfect to soothe and strengthen skin. The products that I keep in rotation are the 3-in-1 One Step Cleansing Micellar Solution which tones, hydrates and removes makeup in one easy step. I follow that with the Aqualia serum (I put this under the moisturizer when my skin is feeling dehydrated), the Aquala Riche moisturizer provides my face with a feel good texture and last but not least; the Aqualia night Spa moisturizer which also doubles up as an overnight mask.  Since I cannot afford to go to the spa on a weekly basis the mask is heaven in a jar for me. I use this treatment before I have any sort of event, date night or if I want to wake up feeling like a million bucks with a healthy glow.

4.    Find Your Fix
Whether that be participating in a 5 minute meditation, making a to do list for the next day, reading until your eyes close or turning on a calming playlist – find what works best for you. For me personally, I swear by calming nature music (I told you I was a grandma!!)

5.    Set a Sleep Schedule
Even though you’re an adult having a set sleep schedule makes a world of difference. A good routine will have you waking up refreshed and ready to take on the day.

6.    Write It Out
Before tuning the lights out give yourself a few minutes to clear your head. Whether that be journaling your thoughts, writing the 3 things you’re thankful for that day or noting your stresses taking this action will allow your mind to be free of a restless night of sleep.

Go to bed with a dream and wake up with a purpose.

Sweet dreams,
Chels
