5 Ways To Detox Your Closet

5 Ways To Detox Your Closet

BREAKING NEWS: picking out an outfit should not be the most stressful part of your day and if it is then there’s a high chance the issue lies right there … in your closet. With Fall right around the corner it’s time for you to swap out tank tops for sweaters. The changing of seasons is a prime opportunity to revamp your closet. Throw your hair up in a messy bun and let’s get it done, you with me?

5 Ways To Detox Your Closet:

1.  Ask Questions
So, there you are. Standing in front of your closet wondering when in the heck a tornado came ripping through your clothes. If you’re feeling confused on where to even begin, let’s take baby steps. Go through your closet, as a whole, and with each questionable piece ask yourself these following questions:

·      Have I worn this item in the last year?

·      What condition is the piece in?

·      Does it fit? Be honest.

·      Does this piece make me feel fabbbbulous when I put it on?

Depending on those answers, the piece either goes in the “keep” or “toss” pile. The hardest part about cleaning out your closet may be saying goodbye to an item of clothing. Take a moment to reflect on the memories and then make your peace with going your separate ways ;)

 2. Donate
At this point in the process, you should have clothes in the “toss” pile. If so, Look at you! Making progress! Which brings us to the next stage: time to donate and or sell! One person’s toss is another person’s treasure which is exactly why consignment shops are about to become your BFF. I highly recommend looking into Posh Mark+ Thred Up as well as local consignment stores. Another option would be to donate your clothes. Look up a donation center near you and participate in an act of kindness.

3. Take Inventory
Well would ya look at that, it’s slowly but surely starting to look like a cleaner closet. YASSSS! Before we pour celebratory champagne we need to take inventory. Review what is your wardrobe and take note of what you may need to add to your shopping list. SHOPPING? DID SOMEONE SAY SHOPPING? Pump the breaks. I’m not suggesting that it’s an add to cart kind of day BUT I am suggesting that you take a true evaluation of your wardrobe. Think about your lifestyle. Do you work a 9 to 5? What is the dress code at work? Are you constantly going out on the weekends? Do you have enough versatile pieces to fit all aspects of your life? Ask yourself what you have enough of and what you need more of.

4. Create A System
Alright ladies, let’s get our clothes in formation. If you ask me, color coordination is a must but then again I was born with OCD flowing my bloodstream. It may sound like a lot of work however creating a system in your closet will save you an enormous amount of time every time you go to get dressed. Beyond color coordination, arrange your closet according to item type. All your denim should be in one place, your dresses in another and tops in another …. you get the point.

5. Quality vs. Quantity
YOU’RE ALMOST TO THE FINISH LINE. Last but certaintly not least, quality vs quantity is key to having an organized and user friendly closet. Even though the 3 shirts for $20 may seem like the deal of the century, pay attention to the quality of those items. It may be a deal but those shirts may only have a short life span and then there you are going back out to spend more money on a t-shirt. You see where I’m going with this? Being a smart shopper will make your wallet and wardrobe happy.

Enjoy your detox,
Chels
