20 Life Lessons to Accept

20 Life Lessons to Accept

I was filling out some paper work the other day and came upon the, “How old are you?” question. I don’t know what it was but I found myself staring at this piece of paper zoning in on my age. Twenty- seven. 27 years I’ve been on this planet. 27 years of growth, mistakes, love, heartache, travel, friendships, tears, laughs, school, jobs all smashed together to make me, me. My mind drifted off to lesson's learned over the year's and that's what I wanted to share with you today.

20 Life Lessons To Accept:

1. Stop Pretending
Life is too short to do things that you don’t like so, stop doing them. If you don’t like to drink, don’t drink. If you would rather spend your Sunday at a museum than at brunch- go get your museum on! There are enough fakers in this world, please don’t add to that population. Do what YOU love and your life will follow suit.

2. The Golden Rule
Treat others the way you want to be treated. It cost you nothing to share a smile to a stranger in the grocery isle.

3. Love Yourself First
If there is one “lesson” that you remember from this article, may this be that lesson. You must learn to love yourself, head to toe, inside and out before anyone else can love you in the way that you deserve. True self love is contagious and vastly importantly to survive this thing we call life.

4. Date The Asshole
Your mom may disagree with me but I say, go for it. There’s a 98% chance he will make your mascara run but I promise you will come out of that relationship stronger and more aware about what you want in a partner.

5. Stay In your PJs
It’s Friday night and all your friends are planning to go out but all you want to do is unwind and watch a sappy movie – stay in your pajamas. Learning to say no is liberating feeling

6. Change Out Of Your PJs
It’s Friday night and all your friends are planning to go out and you’re on the fence about going – change out of your pajamas. Go live a little! Yes, you will spend $15 on a watered down cocktail but the memories will be priceless.

7. Call Your Family
Driving home from work and have a few minutes to spare? Call your grandmother and tell her you love her. The day will come where you can’t pick up the phone anymore and you don’t want to have any regrets, especially when it comes to family.

8. Ball On a Budget
If I were to tell my younger self a piece of advice it would be to learn how to navigate through finances sooner than later. Remember to live in your means and that a $5 latte a day does add up.

9.  End The Comparing Game
Comparison is the thief of joy – don’t dim your own sunshine. Remember that no one is perfect and what you see on social media is through a filtered lens.

10.  Admire Every Curve
As you mature so will your body. Embrace your curves or lack there of. No matter your body shape walk into every day with confidence. This is the only body you have – treat it well and feed it right.

11.  Cup Of Tea
Here’s the truth: not everyone is going to like you. You will not be everyone’s cup of tea but the cool thing about that is, some people prefer a cup of whiskey. Stay true to yourself, always.

12.  Ask For Help
The funny thing about life is no one else knows what they are doing either and we could all use a helping hand. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness rather it shows you are being honest with yourself. So, who’s got a question?

13.  Not All Rainbows
Spoiler alert: life is not all sunshine and rainbows. Sh!t will hit the fan and when it does know that there is always a silver lining. When life places a speed bump in the middle of your smooth journey trust that you will find the light at the end of the tunnel.

14.  Me Time
If anyone ever tells you that putting your phone on silent and eating ice cream straight form the carton is wrong, then aim to never be right. Guard your alone time with your life and don’t let anyone compromise that.

15.  Friend Time
On that note, don’t become a recluse. Find your tribe and love them hard. Friendship is one of the biggest blessings in life and if you ask me is an essential part of surviving your twenties and beyond!

16.  Protect Your Skin
Do you want to be that old woman with leather looking skin? No, I didn’t think so. Protect your skin every single day and start now. Add a moisturizer with an SPF to your daily skin care routine and your future self will thank you.

17.  Unplug
In a world where it’s normal to be staring at a screen 20 hours a day make it a priority to unplug. Whatever that looks like to you is fine just make it happen.

18.  Be A Goal Digger
Set some goals. Stay quiet about them. Slay the hell out of them. Clap for your damn self. Repeat.

19.  You Don’t Have It All Figured Out
Give yourself a break. You know the pressure to “figure it all out” well, I feel it too but we have to all stop being so hard on ourselves. All the pieces will come together and in the meantime know that you are doing the best you can!

20.  You Will Change Jobs
You have the green light to try new things. Not everyone grew up knowing exactly what they wanted to be when they got older so test the waters. Pay attention to what sets our soul on fire and what doesn’t.

One day at a time,
Chels
